In episode 4, we continue our Acts 29 series. This was shared on Father's day 2023, however it is story that is for everyone.
Kent discusses the story of the prodigal son, representing the human tendency to sin and the graciousness of God (the Father). The son, by asking for his inheritance early, disrespects and dishonours the father as if the father is dead. Despite the son's sinfulness, the father absorbs the hurt, remaining steady, constant, and immovable, much like God's love for humanity.
The father welcomes the repentant son back, reconciling with him, much as God does with sinners. Kent emphasises the importance of fathers being accepting, patient, and demonstrating love in their families. He reflects on how humans, like the prodigal son, are discontent when distanced from God, pursuing futile ambitions and greed, and he stresses the importance of valuing non-material things, especially relationships.
Kent concludes by encouraging fathers to foster a positive, loving, and accepting household, engaging with their children's lives and interests and providing both acceptance and correction as needed.
