During Holy Week - night one, we explore the concept of truth through the lens of God's Kingdom, drawing from John 18:36-38, where Jesus tells Pilate that His kingdom is not of this world. Zahn contrasts this with the Roman Empire, which was built on power, hierarchy, and control, where truth was defined by the powerful.
Pilate’s question, “What is truth?”, reflects a world where truth is subjective and often manipulated by those in authority—a theme we can connect to modern society, where leaders still control narratives and suppress dissent.
In contrast, Jesus proclaims a kingdom based on objective truth—a truth revealed not through dominance, but through servanthood, sacrifice, and selfless love. Jesus, though King, chose humility, even unto death on the cross. To His disciples, this may have seemed backward, but Zahn explains that this upside-down kingdom reveals the true foundation of God’s reign.
The truth of this kingdom is not intuitive or worldly—it’s divine, eternal, and transformative.
