"Since we first heard about you, we have never stopped praying for you, asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and spiritual understanding that the Spirit gives. Then you will live honorably and be fully pleasing to him as you bear the fruit of good works in every act of kindness, and as you grow into an ever deeper experience of God. As you experience the fullness of Christ's explosive power infusing you, you'll be empowered to reach the highest level of endurance and joy-filled patience, giving thanks to the Father who makes us fit to share the inheritance of his holy ones in the kingdom of light!"
Context: Kent uses Paul's prayer over the little church at Colossae to show a father's heart — and to point us back to Christ as the supreme factor, the hub in the wheel, before we build anything else.
Discussion Questions:
Kent talks about "the factors that equal the product." What are the factors currently going into your family, your friendships, your fun?
Paul prays for the Colossians to grow in the knowledge of God and live a life worthy of the Lord. What does putting Christ first as the "main factor" actually look like day-to-day in your home?
Kent said, "family is our first ministry." Where is it easy for you to succeed everywhere else and let home slide — and what's one thing you'd change this week?
Do you live free? Where does fear or worrying about what others think stop you stepping into freedom — in worship, in fun, in life?
Application: This week, decide on purpose what your family culture will be — even one sentence, like Joshua's "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Turn off the screens at dinner at least once, make time for a friend, and let yourself actually have fun without guilt. The factors you put in now are what your family will carry for years.
Takeaway Thought: God designed you for connection — so put the right factors in, keep Christ at the centre, and live free.
